Wildfire Update: Eight lightning fires

The fire danger was moderate.

The lightning storms on Aug. 18 ignited eight new wildfires. As of 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 19, one was under control, three were being held and four had been extinguished.

Since March 1 in the Slave Lake Forest Area, there have been 59 wildfires which have burned a total of 268.52 hectares.

In the Forest Protection Areas of Alberta (including the forest around Lesser Slave Lake), a fire permit is required for all types of burning, except for a cooking or warming fire.
