The Michener Minute Good result for Jr. Girls’ volleyball team

RMSS had a “Spook-tacular’ week last week. Here’s what we were up to:

Jr. Girls’ Volleyball: The team played in High Prairie on the 27th. They started out on fire, knocking off Kinuso in a tough three-game match. They lost the first game 25-14 but rebounded with decisive victories in games 2 & 3. The scores were 25-19 and 16-14.

The Jr. Rams continued on their winning ways against Gift Lake. It was over in two sets. The scores were 25-20 & 25-18. This vaulted our Rams into the semi-finals against cross-town rivals from Koinonia Christian School. We were no match for the tiny school with the stronger squad. Rams fell by scores of 25-9 in both affairs.

The third-place finish proves how much this team has improved in such a short time. Way to go girls! Thanks to Coach Butcher for supporting our Jr. Girls this year – without you volunteering, there would be no team!

Wrestling – Tryouts are on Nov. 15 in the Sr. high gym for both Jr. and Sr. high male and females. Bring gym clothes, water bottle and a great attitude. Tryouts go from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Student Recognition – each week, dozens of students are nominated for this award around our building. They get nominated for kind deeds, great academic efforts/results, acts of citizenship and leadership. The list is read aloud throughout the school to recognize all nominees and then a random draw determines our weekly winner. Congratulatons to last week’s winner Jaydyn Bar!

School Dance – a good turnout was experienced for the year’s first dance last Thursday night. Much fun was had by all who attended! Thanks to all the coordinators and supporters for making this event such a success.

Terry Fox celebration – In the fight against cancer this year, our school raised slightly over $2,000 during the Terry Fox Run and subsequently, a few staff members were forced to suffer consequences of this amazing feat. On October 31, pies were thrown in faces, facial hair disappeared and a “Certain Coach” even lost his leg hair! What a great way to wrap up Halloween Day at RMSS!

Grant MacEwan – high school students are travelling to Edmonton on Saturday, November 3 for a campus tour. If you need more information on the trip, call 849-3064 and talk with Cori or Chantel (our Career Counselors).
