The Rams went head to head on Friday, January 31. These are the Roland Michener junior high boys basketball Rams from Slave Lake and the St. Stephen’s Rams from Valleyview. Roland Michener won 65 to 25.
This game was part of a Super Saturday league play in the Smoky River Junior High Basketball League. The Friday and Saturday games were held at St. Francis of Assisi and St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Schools in Slave Lake.
On Saturday, St. Francis Falcons beat the St. Stephen’s Rams 76 to 26. They also played G.P. Vanier Vipers from Donnelly.
With six players on Saturday, the Mistassiniy boys Mustangs, from Wabasca, played three games. They lost to St. Stephen’s Rams 64 to 32, G.P. Vanier Vipers 65 to 21, and Prairie River Raiders 57 to 27.
With only five players, Oski Pasikoniwew Kamik (OPK) boys Bears, from Bigstone Cree Nation, also played three games. They lost 37 to 16 to the Vipers, 40 to 20 to the Raiders, and 51 to 20 to the St. Stephen’s Rams.
In the girl’s teams, Mistassiniy Mustangs, from Wabasca, beat G.P. Vanier 25 to 21. They lost to Prairie River 38 to 28.
OPK girls Bears lost to Praiire River Raiders 45 to 16 and G.P. Vanier 42 to 33.
Kinuso is scheduled to play Prairie River on February 12 in High Prairie. St. Francis is scheduled to play OPA in Bigstone Cree Nation.
Smith School recently added both a girls and a boys junior high basketball team. The girls team played twice and lost both. The boys played twice, lost both, but the second by only three points.
In senior high school basketball, Roland Michener girls basketball Rams competed at a tournament in Hinton on the weekend of February 1. They placed fifth. They lost their first game, won the second, 35 to 33, and lost the third.
