Pee wees come up a bit short

It was a slow weekend for most of minor hockey, but things were hopping at the MRC in Slave Lake with a Pee Wee tournament. Eight teams took part, including two from Slave Lake.

In the ‘B’ pool final, the St. Paul Canadiens eked out an 8 – 7 victory over the High Level North Stars. On the ‘A’ side, Slave Lake’s own Pee Wee 1 Thunder lost the final, 7 – 5, to the New Sarepta Eagles.

The game was very close most of the way. The Eagles perhaps had a slight edge in the play, but the Thunder had their chances as well, and kept tying the score. New Sarepta pulled away in the latter part of the third period, going up 7 – 4 at one point. A Damian Hill slapper from the slot made it 7 – 5 and that was how it ended.

In other news….
In other minor hockey news, the Midget 2 Thunder lost 7 – 4 in Devon on Saturday and 9 – 3 in Camrose on Sunday.

The Atom 1 Thunder lost 6 – 5 to Calahoo on Sunday. Grayson Conrad scored three for the Thunder and Colby Campbell got the other two. The Atom 2 Thunder, meanwhile, were winning both their games. They topped Fox Creek 5 – 3 on Saturday and beat Onoway Sunday by a score of 3 – 2. Drake Conrad scored twice in both games.
