Slave Lake’s two Pee Wee hockey teams hosted a pair of tournaments this past weekend; both ended up winning.
The Pee Wee 1 Thunder overcame some tough competition from the LaCrete Lumberjacks to win in dramatic fashion in the final. This was after suffering their only loss – 7 – 4 – to the Lumberjacks in round robin play.
“We had to pull our goalie,” says head coach Dwain Hill. “We scored with 27 seconds left to tie it.”
That put the game into overtime, and Slave Lake scored to win 6 – 5.
The Pee Wee 2 Thunder beat the CNN Spurs in their final on Sunday. This came after a semi-final victory over the Grimshaw Huskies. The Thunder 1 semi-final win was over the Sturgeon Mustangs.
Six teams from out of town participated. In addition to the ones mentioned, they were the New Sarepta Eagles and the Westlock Warriors.
