Pee Wee ‘A’ baseball got off to a golden start in Slave Lake on the June 10 weekend. The local Heat – a late entry in the league, found themselves hosting a set of games with Whitecourt, Parkland and Grande Prairie in town.
The Heat started off by clobbering the Whitecourt Rockies 21 – 3. Starting pitcher for the home team was Eric Cardinal. He not only pitched a fine game, says coach Leon Hedin, he hit the game’s only home run.
Game 2 for the Heat was a 17 – 10 win over the Parkland Twins. Nathan Hartman was the winning pitcher, also contributing solidly at the plate.
In Game 3, Justin Noskiye threw the full 80 pitches allowed for Pee Wees and the Heat won 17 – 12.
At the plate, “Tanner Churchill had a big weekend,” Hedin says.
This past weekend the Heat played in St. Albert.
