The High Prairie team called ‘Black Dust’ was easily the class of the field in the annual fun shoot put on by the Slave Lake Petroleum Association, in conjunction with the Slave Lake Rod & Gun Club on June 24. The five-person squad from HP amassed 537 points in three events to put them 44 points clear of runner-up Snap On, from Slave Lake.
Finishing in third place with a team score of 457 was Clay Soup, from Slave Lake. The fourth and fifth-place teams were CWC of Slave Lake and Grande Prairie, and Greasy Triggers of Slave Lake.
As far as individual performances went, Jesse Smith of Black Dust led the way at 139 points. Second was his teammate Henry Lonzo with 116. In third place was Mark Troschuk of CWC at 114 points. Mark Sampson of Snap On was fourth with 111 points. Rounding out the top five was Dwight McGlyn of Snap On with 109.
Scott Iverson of the Rod & Gun Club says the support from community sponsors was very good this year. Money raised will go towards upgrades to the range, he says.
