Ella Louise Sloan was born on February 20, 1927 to Glennie and Harry Hunt. She was raised in Swan Valley along with her 7 siblings. She married Wayne Sloan in 1945 and together they raised a family of 8 on a farm nearby. She was always very active; she worked on the farm and drove the valley school bus, a job she enjoyed for 22 years. She had many interests including flowers, gardening, antiques, and music. She played numerous instruments and enjoyed going to dances, concerts, and festivals. She also loved horses. In 1973 she took part in the Klondike trail ride and rode horseback from Kinuso to Edmonton, camping along the way. Upon arriving in Edmonton, she rode in the Klondike Days parade. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved to have company and was always very accommodating. Ella organized a family campout that grew to include relatives, friends and neighbors. The Bash, as it was commonly known, became a highlight of Ella’s life and a tradition that continued for nearly 20 years. She enjoyed many years as an active member of the Kinuso Seniors Center. She was a strong supporter of the museum, and over the years she was involved with other organizations including the Swan Valley Ladies club, the 4 H Club, and the Ag society.
