Obituary – Cyr, Lionel Dennis Joseph

Lionel Dennis Joseph Cyr April 4, 1927 – December 25, 2014 It is with great sadness that the family of Lionel Cyr announces his passing after a courageous battle with a brain tumour. Lionel passed away at the Slave Lake Hospital on Thursday, December 25, 2014 at the age of 87 years surrounded by his loving family. Our family would like to extend our sincerest thanks & gratitude for the wonderful loving care & kindness we all received during the time Lionel was here in the Slave Lake hospital. Lionel was born in Fairydell near Legal, AB – he moved to Slave Lake with his parents Rene & Gracia Cyr and his siblings in 1947, where he resided for most of his life. There he met the love of his life – Rita Labelle, shortly after moving to Slave Lake & they were married on Sept. 11, 1950 and thereafter had 5 beautiful children together. Lionel loved his family, camping, fishing, gardening, woodworking & animals – especially dogs and little children who were just as fond of him as he was of them. Lionel will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 64 years – Rita and his children – Len Cyr, Fay (Alvin) Sand, Janet (Gunther) Schutterle, Robert (Gail) Cyr, Grace (Kevin) Rock and by his seventeen grandchildren and his twenty-four great-grandchildren. He will also be forever remembered by his brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, numerous relatives and dear friends. A Funeral Service in memory of Lionel was held on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Peter Celestin Catholic Church in Slave Lake, AB with Father Jeyapaul officiating. Lionel was cremated and interment will be at a later date. Donations gratefully accepted in memory of Lionel to the Slave Lake Hospital Auxiliary 309-6th Street NE, Slave Lake, AB T0G 2A2.
