Mushrooms and folklore

For most people, seeing mushrooms in an arc or circle isn’t anything to write home about. But for folklore lovers it sure is a sight to see. A fairy ring (also known as fairy circle, elf circle, elf ring, or pixie ring) by definition is a naturally occurring ring or arc of mushrooms that is found mainly in forested areas, but also appears in grasslands.
They usually have a patch of dead grass in the middle. Putting the science aside, these rings are linked with good luck and protection. The one pictured above is right off of 7th Street SE in Slave Lake.
