Midgets wallop Athabasca in pre-season hockey

Pre-season minor hockey is about figuring out which tier you belong in. After the Slave Lake Midget Thunder outshot Athabasca 80 – 11 on Friday, it’s looking like those two teams might not end up playing in the same tier.
On the other hand, for a shot total that lopsided, Athabasca did well to hold the Thunder to seven goals, and to score three of their own. Lots of reason for optimism on their side, and on the Slave Lake side – questions to answer about how a team scores three times on only eleven shots and how you only get seven on 80 shots
But it’s early! The actual pre-season (tiering) season begins this Friday. The Thunder host Wabasca on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. They play in Redwater and Whitecourt Oct. 13 and 14.
Scoring for Slave Lake in the game in Athabasca were Owen Pearson with three, Danen Timmann, Logan Bigstone, William Chemago and Jace Stephenson. Chase Nehring got eight stops in goal for Slave Lake.
