Slave Lake’s Midget Heat boys’ baseball team won all three of its games on the last weekend of May in St. Albert. Two were close and one was not.

The first game was against the Lloydminster Twins. The Heat came out on to 11 – 8, with Aiden Blocka getting the start and going five innings. He “pitched really well,” says head coach Kevin Campbell.

In the second game, the Heat romped over the host St. Albert Cardinals, winning 14 – 0. Uneeb Khan tossed five scoreless innings for the victory.

Game three saw the Heat up against the Parkland Twins. Kyle Campbell and Hunter Mouallem shared pitching duties in a 10 – 8 Slave Lake win.

As for the hitting in the series, coach Campbell says the team got “some key hits this weekend from Jack Albrecht, Harley Andrews, Ethan Wedmid and Parker Hay – driving in runs at critical times.”

Round 2 for the Heat starts this coming weekend. Round 1 consisted of six games, of which the Heat won five, leading their North 2 division.

It’s worth noting that the team lost two of its star players to ‘AAA’ Midget baseball this season. Pitcher Matt LaFrance and catcher Will Chemago are toiling for the Grande Prairie Northern Lights in that higher league.
