Slave Lake’s Midget Heat boys’ baseball team played a couple of games in Lloydminster on the weekend. It was supposed to be three games, but heavy rain forced the postponement of a game vs. High Prairie.
The rain also put an early end to the Heat’s first game, against the Edmonton Padres. Edmonton was up 12 – 8 in the fifth inning when that happened, and gets the win.
“We had just started to find our stride when the skies opened up,” says coach Kevin Campbell. “It would have been nice to finish this game to see if we would have completed the comeback.”
Hunter Mouallem got the start on the mound for the Heat.
Game 2 was Sunday morning against the host Lloydminster Twins.
“Uneeb Khan pitched a real gem, going the distance on the mound for the 14-1 victory,” says Campbell. “It was nice to see our bats come to life. We played an all-around good game.”
The High Prairie game might be made up in Slave Lake this week or next. This weekend the Heat play in Lac La Biche, vs. the host, Ft. McMurray and Lloyd.
The Heat’s record now stands at six wins and just one loss for the 2019 season.
