Jr. Heat finish second in ‘AAA’ league

Due to the Monday holiday this week, we were unable to bring you the weekend baseball news – meaning (among other things) how the Slave Lake Jr. Heat did at the ‘AAA’ provincials in Edmonton. What we can tell you is that they finished the regular season in second place in the seven-team league.
In 22 games this season, the Heat won 14 and lost eight, for 28 points. That put them three wins and six points behind league-leading South Jasper Place Jays, and two points up on Fort Saskatchewan Red Sox and Innisfail Merhants.
St. Albert finished fifth, with the Community Park Reds and Calgary North trailing.
The provincial tournament this past weekend had the Heat opening against St. Albert on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday they took on Fort Sask. and SJP. Then on Monday morning to finish off the round robin they played against Innisfail.
The top two teams at the tournament qualify for the Western Canadian championship, which is in Brandon Manitoba.
