Two more games – two more wins against the Fox Creek Ice Kings for the hard-charging Slave Lake Icedogs. The gap was a bit less than in the first two wins, but the ‘Dogs were still clearly the superior squad.
In Saturday’s home game, when Fox Creek did manage to break out, they got some great scoring chances. But Icedogs’ netminder Skyler DiLallo was more than up to the challenge.
The scores were 6 – 2 for Slave Lake on Friday in Fox Creek and 8 – 2 Saturday at home.
Friday’s game saw Lane Genereaux getting the start in goal. He faced 21 shots, while Ice Kings’ goalie Mason Kelly dealt with 47. Icedogs’ defenceman Carson Lux was named the game’s first star; he scored three goals and added one assist. Bryce Young and Shaye Sommerfeld were the other Slave Lake goal-scorers.
On Saturday, as noted, the game started off with the Icedogs putting a lot of pressure on Fox Creek, and then Fox Creek breaking out with even better scoring chances. But Slave Lake did get on the board first, via a shot from the right faceoff circle by Bryce Young that eluded the goalie. Gerik Giroux scored late in the period to give the ‘Dogs a 2 – 0 lead.
Slave Lake led 5 – 1 after two periods. Danil Babchuk had a fine game, assisting on five of his team’s goals and was named first star. Other goal-scorers were Griffin Thiessen, Chris Cormack, Ethan Stuckless, Logan Toutsaint and Young. Young leads the GMHL West in scoring with 15 points after four games this season.
The two teams meet again this week. The only difference is Fox Creek is in Slave Lake Friday night and vice versa Saturday.
