Hung-up ice

Something you don’t see every day is a pond that empties out in the middle of winter, leaving sheets of ice clinging to trees six or eight feet in the air. That was the scene in the pond by the road up to cemetery hill in Slave Lake. It happened in the middle of December when for some reason the culvert under the road opened up. The result was a lot of water rushing down the hill, over the service road between Grizzly Ridge Honda and the Petro Can and (some of it, at least) going under the highway and into the flood diversion channel.
