Home-linoleum advantage helps local floor curlers

Slave Lake teams took three out of the four top spots in the regional floor curling tournament held in Slave Lake on April 29. The Stan Conrad rink (with Alma Conrad, Trudy Stephens and Delores Scarfe) finished first overall. Claiming second spot was the Richard Nadeau rink from Westlock. The Less Potts foursome took third place (Roger Termul, Marlene Gamble and Al Haugen). Rounding out the top four was the Pat Seppola crew, with Frances Winkler, Robert Reason and Joe Winkler.
Next up in the floor-curling world is the north playoffs in Jarvie on May 13. That should be 24 teams, 12 of which will advance to the provincials on June 15 – 17, also at Jarvie.
Why Jarvie? Stan Conrad says it’s a big enough facility to host that many teams, being a former school gymnasium.
