Hockey gets complicated with COVID

The weirdness of social-distancing practices hit home recently when town council discussed re-opening hockey rinks in the COVID era. It could get so awkward, so inconvenient that some teams or leagues might wonder whether it is worth the effort.

For example, if you can only have half a dozen players on the bench at a time, and the rest have to wait in the hallway, it’s going to take a lot of the fun away. The dressing room rules might be even tougher to swallow. But if people want to play hockey, they’re going to have to put up with it for as long as the COVID threat remains high. The latest predictions are that it might be two or three years. A lot can happen in that time and one possibility is hockey as we know it might not surivive.
