Hardball on softwood

It now costs Alberta lumber producers 20 per cent more to ship their product into the U.S. This will punish them, while at the same time creating an artificial advantage for their competitors south of the border. American consumers will be the other big losers, because their prices will rise and the U.S. mills will be laughing all the way to the bank.
It’s tempting to blame this all on President Donald Trump and his protectionist tendencies – but the same thing has happened under previous U.S. administrations. It’s been solved before; let’s hope that can happen again.
