Hunting remains popular in Alberta, although some of its advocates seem worried it is less popular than it once was. That might be one of the topics touched on in our upcoming (late August) special section on hunting.
The fact is some game species are expanding in number and range. The mighty moose is listed as a ‘secure’ species by the provincial government, and its range is expanding in the parkland zone. The white-tail deer, as most people know, is expanding in every direction. It seems to thrive in spite of (or maybe because of) human settlement and other activity. And with the deer boom comes healthy predator populations.
So if putting meat in your freezer is the goal, there’s plenty out there. Good hunting.
