The 30th annual Golden Walleye Classic was held at Shaw’s Point Resort this past weekend.

The event drew dozens of two-member teams from around Alberta, other parts of Canada and even the U.S.

Shotgun starts were held at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. each day.

This is a catch-and-release event. The competitors were permitted to catch four walleye per day, to be weighed at the resort. The fish were then released back into Lesser Slave Lake.

Thousands of dollars in prize money were handed out for each day, plus a big jackpot for the biggest two-day catch of the tournament.

The event is always held on the Labour Day long weekend.

A Captain and Kids Tournament was held on Aug. 31 as well, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Look for separate stories about both events in the Sept. 12 edition of the Lakeside Leader.

Also, look for a video of the winners being announced on the Express’s YouTube.
