For the women’s shelter

Singing for a good cause

Edmonton country music artist Andrea Nixon (with accompanist Cody Mack) was in town last week as part of a tour she’s doing to support women’s shelters around the province. Her performance was in conjunction with the local Northern Haven Support Society, which put on a barbecue at the Royal Canadian Legion at the same time on Sept. 6.

Fill the van!

Northern Haven Support Society recently challenged locals to help them fill a van with school supplies for the upcoming year.
According to Shelley Brooks, it was a huge success!
“The event was held in front of Staples on Friday September 25th and 26th,” she says. “We collected enough donations from the generous businesses and community members of Slave Lake to outfit 20 students with a backpack, lunch tote and school supplies. These donations will be used to outfit the anticipation of 75 children through the shelter’s doors in 2017/18 school year.”
Brooks adds, “We’ve had a lot of questions about where donations can be left by those who weren’t able to stop by our ‘Fill The Van’ fundraiser; our local staples has offered to be a drop off spot for donations.”
