Fitness milestone for local woman

Gail Ungstad of Slave Lake was a winner in the Great White North half-marathon in Parkland County on July 8. Ungstad was also the only entry in her age and gender group. She finished the two kilometre swim, 90 kilometre bike ride and 20 kilometre run in about seven-and-a-half hours. Ungstad says a lot of credit goes to her coach Robbie at CrossFit, “and of course to a very supportive spouse Dave.” The win reminded Ungstad of another event she entered, in Slave Lake, back in 1982. That was a 10-k race sponsored by a local newspaper. She won that one as well, she says, “because I was the only female entry.”
