Even non sports fans can appreciate and celebrate the accomplishments of local young men and women who do well at the provincial level. At least we hope so. You don’t have to be a lover of the game of baseball to be pleased that a group of 18-20-year-olds from Slave Lake won the Junior ‘AAA’ provincial championships earlier this month. Or that a group of 13 and 14-year-olds came second at another provincial championship the same weekend.
It’s great stuff. Teamwork, personal commitment, good coaching, parental support – all that goes into the mysterious mixture that sometimes (far from always) results in a winning combination. Luckily for us, we don’t have to understand how it works; we can just enjoy it for a good accomplishment – something that brings out the best in a bunch of our friends and neighbours. Way to go!
Who knows – it could get even better. The Junior team was playing at the Western Canadian Championships in Brandon Manitoba this past weekend.
