Be careful how you vote

Last week we reported on the Slave Lake Municipal Planning Commission voting down a proposal to include FireSmart principles in new construction in town. Citing discomfort with adding to the cost of development, the two town councillors on the MPC voted against it. From what we hear they were not expecting the ‘nay’ vote to be decisive, but when one of the public members joined them, it ended in a tie vote, which equals a defeat.

Surprise, surprise. You take your chances when you make a token vote against something because you expect it to pass.

But as noted in the article, the matter isn’t dead. Town council has the final word.
