“What a barn-burner!” is what Slave Lake Icedogs head coach Brian Noad said about a pre-Christmas tilt between his team and the High Prairie Redwings. The teams are settling into a pattern of close, hard-fought games – often resulting in one-goal victory for one side or the other. This time the Icedogs prevailed, winning it in overtime.
The ‘Dogs had to come back to do it – something else that is becoming a habit. They fell behind 3 – 0 right off the bat, and again 4 – 1 early in the second, But then they got things going and scored four straight goals (all of them on the powerplay). The Redwings tied it at seven late in the third, and Ilias Okemow got the winner in overtime – his fourth goal of the game.
Noad says his is the better team “if they show up,” which happens inconsistently.
The second game of that weekend – against the Northern Alberta Tomahawks, was not played and wil be rescheduled.
