The Slave Lake Dirt Bags are the Southshore Men’s Baseball League champions for the second year in a row. They beat the Slave Lake Cardinals two games to none in the best-of-three final. In the second game, on July 30, the Dirt Bags broke it open in the middle innings, hitting Cardinals’ pitcher Kirk Ruecker pretty hard; that, plus some defensive mistakes by the Cardinals allowed the Dirt Bags to build up a lead of seven or eight runs. The Cardinals clawed back a bit in the fifth, scoring three times, but Cody Stasow then hit a grand slam home run for the Dirt Bags. Final score – 11 – 4. Stasow pitched five innings and Danny Schanzenbacher finished it off for the winning team. Craig Dombrosky made a couple of outstanding defensive plays at second base for the Dirt Bags.
