Ten Sharks qualify for provincials

The Slave Lake Sharks did very well in Regionals, August 10 to 13 in Grande Prairie.

There were 240 registered swimmers. Sixteen Sharks competed in 63 swims and four relays. The medal count was 24 gold, 14 silver and four bronze, equaling 42 medals in total.

Ten Sharks – Dawson Taylor, Grace Auger, Kellen Tissink, Soleil Pugliese, Gryffin Taylor, Elly Friesen, Ethan Baril, Taylor Friesen, Colby Cyr and Darcy Garratt qualified for Provincials.

In Regionals swimmers have to swim in preliminaries and finish in the top eight to swim in finals to qualify for Provincials.

Jorgia Green – 7/8 girls – had five personal best times. She placed sixth in 25m backstroke, sixth in 25m freestyle eighth in 25m breaststroke and eighth in 50m freestyle

Javannah Maganes – 7/8 girls – had three personal best times. She placed 50m back ninth in preliminaries, 25m back 10th in preliminaries, 50m freestyle 13th in preliminaries and 25m free 13th in preliminaries.

Jordann Medina – 7/8 girls – also had three personal best times. She placed 50m back 11th in preliminaries, 25m back 14th in preliminaries, 50m freestyle 12th in preliminaries and 25m freestyle 11th in preliminaries

Leanne McLeod – 9/10 girls – had four personal best times. She placed 50m back ninth in preliminaries, 25m back 11th in preliminaries, 100m freestyle 10th in preliminaries and 25m freestyle 16th in preliminaries.

Kaden Becker – 9/10 boys – had six personal best times. He placed seventh in 25m butterfly, sixth in 100m freestyle and fifth in 200m freestyle.

Jagger Green – 11/12 boys – had four personal best times. He placed fifth in 100m backstroke, fourth in 50m backstroke, eighth in 50m breaststroke and 100m breaststroke, 10th in preliminaries.

Dawson Taylor – 7/8 boys – had six personal best times. He placed second in 25m butterfly, third in 25m breaststroke and first in 50m breaststroke.

Grace Auger – 9/10 girls – had seven personal best times. Her times were second in 100m freestyle, first in 100m IM, first in 200m freestyle and third in 50m freestyle.

Kellen Tissink – 9/10 boys – had eight personal best times. He placed second in 25m butterfly, second in 100m IM, first in 50m butterfly and third in 50m freestyle.

Soleil Pugliese – 11/12 girls – had four personal best times. She placed second in 50m breaststroke, second in 100m breaststroke and sixth in 200m freestyle.

Gryffin Taylor – 11/12 boys – had seven personal best times. He placed second in 50m butterfly, first in 100m butterfly, second in 200m IM and fifth in 100m breaststroke

Elly Friesen – 11/12 girls – had five personal best times. She placed first in 100m butterfly, first in 400m freestyle, first in 100m IM and first in 200m IM.

Friesen won the Regional aggregate trophy for her age category.
Ethan Baril – 13/14 boys – had two personal best times. He placed first in 50m breaststroke, first in 100m freestyle, second in 200m freestyle and second in 50m freestyle.

Taylor Friesen – 13/14 girls – had six personal best times. He placed first in 1,500m freestyle, first in 800m freestyle, fifth in 100m backstroke and fourth in 100m breastroke.

Colby Cyr – 13/14 – boys had four personal best times. He placed second in 100m butterfly, second in 400m freestyle, second in 100m freestyle and second in 200m IM.

Darcy Garratt – Men Masters – had three personal best times. He placed first in 1500m, first in 800m freestyle, first in 400m freestyle and third in 50m freestyle.

In the 12 and under mixed 200m medley Dawson Taylor, Gryffin Taylor, Soleil Pugliese and Grace Auger got fifth.

In the 12 and under mixed 200m free relay Dawson Taylor, Gryffin Taylor, Soleil Pugliese and Grace Auger got fourth.

In the 14 and under mixed 200m medley relay Taylor Friesen, Ethan Baril, Elly Friesen and Colby Cyr got first.

In the 14 and under mixed 200m free relay Colby Cyr, Taylor Friesen, Elly Friesen and Ethan Baril won a gold medal.

Mitsue Minnows

Trevor Labrie for Men’s Masters qualified for Provincials. He placed first in 100m backstroke, first in 100m IM, second in 100m breaststroke and second in 50m backstroke.
