A stolen vehicle that rolled in the ditch a few kilometres north of Slave Lake on May 6 came from Wabasca. Police say it was headed south when it rolled, ending up on its roof sometime early that Sunday morning. Police and fire attended but found nobody there. As of a couple of days later, RCMP had found nobody and had no idea who the culprit was.
Shortly after that incident, several emergency vehicles were seen entering, then leaving Marten Beach. Speculation in the hamlet that the unprecedented turnout of agencies (three in total) probably had to do with a search for the fugitive vehicle thief, who might well have been injured. But no; Staff Sgt. John Spaans said they had responded to a “domestic situation” in Marten Beach. “A fellow was arrested with a broken arm,” he said. “Unrelated.”
