St. Francis hosts badminton competition

High school badminton kicked off with the first annual Jr. High Falcons Invitational Badminton Tournament, on April 2.

Hosted by St. Francis of Assisi, the tournament included students from six schools. The schools from Slave Lake were St. Francis, Roland Michener and Koinonia.

Kinuso, G.P. Vanier from Donnelly, and St. Andrews from High Prairie also participated.

Grades 7, 8, and 9 students played singles, doubles, and mixed games. The tournament used both the St. Francis and St. Mary’s gyms.

Each category had a winner and three finalists.

G.P.Vanier received the most points with 52 St. Andrews was second with 26. Kinuso was third with 19.

St. Francis was fourth with 16. Roland Michener was fifth with 13. Koinonia was sixth with 11.

School totals were calculated based on five points per first place down to one point for fourth.
