On Jan. 20 the Roland Michener Rams wrestling team took part in the Northern Lights high school wrestling tournament in Grande Prairie.
Twenty-three Rams took part, winning numerous silver and bronze medals and even a handful of gold.
Head coach Ian Doetzel says with wrestlers from B.C. and throughout Alberta, “it was a good level of competition.”
Winning gold for the Rams were Charlotte Stockman, Robbie Roe, Carl Koester, Ruben Burton and Corbin Gauthier.
Winning silver medals for their performances were Courtney Reason, Eric Kebel, Ty Kubel, Elias Lundy, Zane Lightening, Kailee MacKinnon, Hailie Kelly, Alanna Lightening, Brandon Mercer, Aren Schmidt and Ethan Drake. Bronze medal winners were Kat Holden, Yu Kobayashi, Zoe Lightening and Korbin Gauthier.
“They laid it all out on the mat and performed extremely well,” says Doetzel. The team “worked very hard to prepare for this.”
The next tournament for the Rams is at the University of Alberta Butterdome, on Feb. 3.
