RCMP investigate fake currency

Police in Slave Lake are looking into a case of counterfeit currency showing up in Slave Lake. Last week they issued a security camera image of a woman who they said tried passing a fake bill or bills at the RBC on Feb. 22.
According to a release from Staff Sgt. John Spaans, the 40-50-year-old woman entered the bank at about 11:30 a.m. on that day “and attempted to exchange counterfeit Canadian currency. The attempt was not successful and (she) immediately left the bank.”
In a follow-up release on April 3, Spaans said the person in the image had been located. The focus of the investigation had shifted to the question of whether she knew the money was counterfeit. Anonymous sources informed The Leader that the woman was notified by a friend who had seen the image released by the RCMP. When she found out they were looking for her she turned herself in.
