Vehicles damaged, tree knocked over
One person is in custody following a hazardous pursuit through Slave Lake on Sunday night, Sept. 23.
The incident began at approximately 8:00 p.m., when the local RCMP received a complaint of an impaired driver on Holmes Trail. They located the suspect vehicle, which refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed.
According to a release from the RCMP, officers pursued the suspect vehicle into town where it was observed driving “in an erratic and dangerous fashion.”
On 6th Avenue SE, the suspect vehicle drove through a field and knocked over a tree before striking the side of a police vehicle. The pursuit continued into the Southwest and Northwest quadrants of town before police backed off.
A short time later, says the release, the suspect vehicle was located parked on the Sawridge First Nation.
The individual identified as the alleged driver of the vehicle was arrested; however, he attempted to resist arrest and assaulted one of the officers. The details on the assault were not included in the RCMP release.
A 19 year old male resident of Slave Lake was taken into custody with charges pending. These charges include flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
During the incident at least one civilian vehicle was struck by the suspect vehicle.
