Pipeline war

Premier Rachel Notley’s retaliation against B.C. last week will give that province’s wine producers a shock, but will it do any good? Will the B.C. Government buckle and back off on its opposition to more oil pipeline capacity to the coast?
Besides sticking up for Alberta’s economy, Notley is of course trying to score points politically. B.C. Premier John Horgan is doing exactly the same thing, pandering to the large and noisy anti-fossil fuel lobby in his province. He’s probably not very popular in northeastern B.C., where oil and gas is a big part of the economy.
As far as the pipeline expansion issue goes, it looks as if federal intervention is called for. The reviews have been done, the risks are low enough, the decision has been made. Let’s get on with it.
