Outstanding in their field

Slave Lake Minor Baseball Association was recognized earlier this month by Baseball Alberta for the excellent work it has been doing. The group won one of the ‘Association of the Year’ awards at the annual awards gala on Nov. 17 in Edmonton. Pictured with the award are SLMBA executive members (l. to r.) Dave LaFrance, Kevin Campbell, Patty Hay and Jeff Blocka. Three such awards are given out each year – one each to ‘small,’ ‘medium’ and ‘large’ associations (based on player registration numbers). Slave Lake was the ‘small’ winner in 2018, with Sylvan Lake and Fort McMurray the other winners. The blurb on the Baseball Alberta website says the awards recognize associations that “have shown growth, organization and compliance with the various levels of Baseball Alberta programming.”
Says Campbell: “Our association is very grateful and honoured to have received this award. Lots of hard work by the past and present board members. A very special ‘thank you’ to all of our parent volunteers and players as we would not be a successful association without you! Spring training camp starts in three months!”
