Novice 1Thunder hockey team captures league title

Submitted

The 2018/2019 season for the Novice 1 Thunder was one to remember.

The team ended a hard-played season in first place. We ended up having to play a four-game round robin with the northern division.

Us and Barrhead went 3-0. The fourth game was against Barrhead in their rink. We ended up with a 5-2 win.

The first round was against Tofield. Game one was at home and the team out-worked them and came out with a 5-1 win. The next day we had to travel there. Tofield really wanted that game. They came at us with everything. We lost 5-2 but won the series 7-6.

Isaiah Brown made 30 saves that day to push us through to the gold banner round.

We ended up playing Barrhead. Game one was in their arena. Slave Lake Thunder came out with a point to prove and came out with a 7-1 win.

The final game came in Slave Lake against Barrhead. Barrhead scored 20 seconds in. But the Thunder answered one minute later. With goals from Colby Churchill and Nolan Beaupre, Isaiah Brown in net and a total team effort, Slave Lake won 6-5. They took home the Novice Tier 3 Northern Division gold league championship banner for 2018/2019.

I would like to send out a big thank you to all the players, coaches, parents, siblings and volunteers for all your help with this season.
