Midget Thunder nip Athabasca

Slave Lake’s Midget boys’ hockey team got back into regular league action on Saturday, playing in Athabasca. They eked out a 4 – 3 win.
Maybe the most notable thing about the game is how close it was. The last time the teams met, Slave Lake hammered Athabasca 13 – 2. The home team might not have improved that much in the meantime, but their goalie certainly stood on his head. He stopped 43 of 47 shots, while Chase Nehring in the Slave Lake net saw only 21. So it’s fair to say a lot of the game was played in the Athabasca end. A good result for them, at 4 – 3.
Scoring for Slave Lake were Tyrell Barore with two, Dominic Wapahoo and Matthew Cardinal.
This Sunday the Thunder play in Wabasca.
In other minor hockey news from the weekend, Slave Lake’s Atom 1 Thunder defeated Leduc 7 – 5 on Saturday and lost 7 – 3 on Sunday to Strathcona. The Atom 2 team lost 6 – 3 to Athabasca.
