Apparently there’s been a kerfluffle on social media about the Regional Housing Authority’s plans to build a couple of apartment buildings in town. We haven’t been following it. So perhaps our view that the idea of replacing costly, inefficient single-family units with apartments is a good idea isn’t worth much. But we still think that.
The Heritage Village (formerly McBeck) apartments model works well, we’re told, with its combination of three types of housing for different classes of need and ability to pay. Something similar is proposed for the new RHA apartment blocks. The ‘NIMBY’ sentiment is perhaps understandable, but solves no problems.
