The Roland Michener Secondary School wrestling team got a boost last week from a local business.
Seca Contracting and Slave Lake Specialties donated $1,000 to the Rams.
Head coach Ian Doetzel explained that the money would be used to purchase new training equipment. He is looking specifically to get weighted vests.
Some of the money will also go towards transportation to out of town tournaments. The Rams are planning to attend seven tournaments all over the province this season. Doetzel highlighted provincials which take place in Medicine Hat. The season started on Nov. 15 and will go until March.
Seca’s owner Shawn McCann, who also is a subcontractor for Slave Lake Specialties, said his company is always trying to support the community. This year the company figured supporting kids groups and activities would be the best bet.
McCann’s own children are also members of the wrestling team.
“It (wrestling) keeps them out of trouble,” he joked.
He said his kids love it and he wants other kids to have the same opportunity. He hopes the Rams have a good season.
