Learning how to run (and more) with Cindy Williams

For 12 weeks, on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Slave Lake Multi-Rec Centre, Cindy Williams is teaching a course called Learn To Run.

A fitness trainer and owner of Body Sculpt Fitness, Williams says the course takes beginner runners and teaches them the basics such as proper form and breathing techniques.

Williams decided to start the running class, she says, because a lot of her family and friends would ask for tips and tricks to help them start running. She’s been teaching running classes since 2016.

Williams says she was always good at cardio growing up; after her daughter was born she got back into it, including running. She ran for seven years on her own before deciding to get into bootcamp workouts, which led to certification with the Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA).

“I didn’t think it was going to be as big as it has turned out,” she says, “and become one of my favourite classes to teach.”

Williams says she likes to see people improve and take off and do their own thing.

Come spring, the class will be doing a lot of running outside. The indoor track running is usually only done in the winter months, but all beginners will start on it.

Apart from running class, Williams teaches several others, including Barre Fitness, HILT, Bootcamp, 90 Minute Extreme and Tone and Burn. She also volunteers to teach gym classes at C J Schurter Elementary School.
