On November 5, 2018 RCMP attempted a traffic stop in town when the truck subsequently fled. The truck was later located while the truck’s occupant was committing a break and enter into a rural residence. A 24-year old man was arrested after a short chase.
A 25-year-old man who had fled from police as well was located and arrested a short time later. Both were charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime, mischief, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon and unauthorized possession of a firearm. One was also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police.
On November 6, 2018, RCMP attended a residence on the Peavine Metis Settlement. While at the residence police located a vehicle that had been reported stolen out of Peace River, AB.
Arrested and charged is the same 25-year-old mentioned above, and a 29-year man, for possession of property over $5,000.
On November 8, 2018, RCMP attended a break and enter at the Smitty’s Restaurant in High Prairie. An undisclosed amount of cash, and a safe were stolen. RCMP acted on gathered intelligence and arrested three employees and recovered most of what had been stolen. Due to the accused being youths at the time of the incident, police will not be releasing any names.
On November 16, 2018, High Prairie members attempted to stop a stolen truck when it fled from police. RCMP located the vehicle again in a driveway at an unrelated residence later that night. Once again the vehicle fled from responding members.
While making patrols in Peavine Metis Settlement the stolen vehicle was located. Police also located another stolen SUV where they found the accused sleeping behind the wheel. It turned out to be the same 25-year-old man from the two earlier incidents. He was arrested and charged for possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 x 2, operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police and failure to comply with conditions. He is in custody awaiting court.
On November 18, 2018, RCMP executed a search warrant on a rural property in Big Lakes County. RCMP arrested two females and during the search a quantity of cocaine was seized at the residence with packaging material.
A 37-year-old High Prairie woman has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine. A 39-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man – both of High Prairie – have been charged with possession of cocaine.
All accused have been released and will appear in court on January 7, 2019.
