Grim news from up north

Things are sounding pretty rough in the community of Cadotte Lake. Of course the only time you hear about it is when something bad happens, so let’s acknowledge there’s lots of good happening in that community as well, as there is in every community. But the news last week of two teen suicides and two other attempts certainly isn’t good. It follows the murder of a 69-year-old community member – a case in which two teens are charged.

What the cause of this spate of tragic events might be the Edmonton Journal report didn’t say. What it did say was that the Lesser Slave Lake Indian Regional Council had made mental health resources available. Alberta Health Services is also putting on extra resources. Hopefully it will do some good.
