Filewich/Manning win Dahlgren Memorial

According to a contestant at the Larry Dahlgren Memorial Walleye Tournament this tournament had two positive unique features.

The first was meals.

The second was all children at the final award ceremony received a goody bag with fishing lures and other supplies. Many also received fishing poles.

The reason given was to encourage the younger generation to become interested in fishing.

Sixty teams participated in the Second Annual Larry Dahlgren Memorial Walleye Tournament at the Spruce Point Park Campground and Marina by Kinuso.

The event was organized by Larry’s children Scott Dahlgren and Chelsea Lucas. Fishing was done on Friday May 31 and Saturday June 1.

Jeremy Manning and Dylan Filewich won first place with a combined total of 30.75 lb. The prize was $24,550.

Ron Fibke and Mark Filewich won $12,375 for second place with 30.05 lb.

Derek Hickey and Michael Carlisle received $8,250 for third with 29.7 lb.

Amounts for fourth to tenth place prizes were not announced.

Kevin Schafer and Chris Kindraka won fourth place with 29.4 lb.

Last year’s champions, Jan Courtorielle and Aaron Van Hoek placed fifth with 29.21 lb. Brian Dobson and Bob Bugara placed sixth with 28.8 lb.

Blair Mombourquette and Romona Mombourquette won seventh with 28.5 lb. They also won two other categories.

Eric Filewich and Ryan Domino placed eighth with 28.45 lb. Ninth went to Dale McGrath and Brandon McGrath with 28.04 lb. Jason Schaffrick and Lyle Schaffrick placed 10th place with 27.95 lb.

Prizes were also given for ‘big fish’ and other categories.

There was a silent action and 50/50. All funds raised will go to the Kinuso Fire Department and the Slave Lake Gymnastics Association.
