Every child matters

On September 25 St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Academy in Slave Lake celebrated Orange Shirt Day. Local drummers attended the event to pray and sing traditional songs, including Stan Isadore (above). Orange Shirt Day is annual recognition of the harm the residential school system did to children’s sense of self-esteem and wellbeing. It is also an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.
