Federal Conservative Party leader Andrew Scheer announced earlier this month that a Conservative government would remove the GST from home heating and energy bills.
Peace River-Westlock MP Arnold Viersen approves.
“Northern Albertans know that heating your home in the winter isn’t a luxury,” he said in a March 6 news release. “It’s a necessity.”
Viersen’s release goes on to hammer the federal carbon tax, for increasing the cost of essentials such as fuel and groceries.
“We don’t tax other basic necessities like groceries and we shouldn’t be taxing home heating,” Viersen says. “Our plan to remove the GST from home heating and energy bills is just one of the ways that a Conservative government will help Canadians get ahead.”
