Eight of the 12 members of the Slave Lake Sharks swim club who competed at the regional meet in Grande Prairie qualified for the provincial championships. Those happened this past weekend in Edmonton.
The regional meet was cut a bit short due to heavy smoke in the area. Organizers moved the finals up to Sunday morning and it seemed to work well enough for the Slave Lake swimmers, as follows:
Ethan Baril qualified in all four of his swims winning two golds and two silver medals.
Elly Friesen qualified in all four of her swims winning two golds and two silver medals and one bronze medal in the Girls 14 & Under Medley Relay.
Taylor Friesen is an alternate in the 1500m swim, winning two bronze medals (placed third in the 1500m and 800m free) and won a bronze medal in the Girls 14 & Under Medley Relay.
Darcy Garratt qualified for the 1500m and 800m swims and is a wildcard qualifier in the 50m free and 50m fly, winning two gold medals and two bronze medals.
Soleil Pugliese is a wildcard qualifier in her 25m breast and 50m breast swims winning three bronze medals (also placed third in the 100 IM).
Dawson Taylor qualified in the 50m breast stroke and wildcard qualified in the 25m fly, 100m IM and the 25m breast swims winning three bronze and a silver medal.
Gryffin Taylor qualified in the 50m breast and the 100 IM and is an alternate in the 25m breast winning one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
