Todd White will be the coach and general manager of the Slave Lake Jr. ‘A’ Icedogs. The team announced his hiring last week.
Lauren Barr, who represents the investors in the team and was interim general manager, let The Leader know about White in an email on March 27.
“Todd brings with him a skilled team including a Ukrainian assistant coach who specializes in power skating, as well as a goalie coach,” she said. “Todd is extremely effective in recruiting and is building a strong team with seven Europeans currently being signed.”
White tells The Leader he’s been coaching since the age of 19. He didn’t say how long ago that was, but he’s since coached his own kids through the years and done plenty of other coaching – much of it in his home town of Lac La Biche. He says he remembers playing against the Slave Lake Wolves when they were in the same Junior ‘B’ league as the Lac La Biche Clippers.
“It’s going to be really good hockey,” he predicts, speaking of the Icedogs, adding, “There’s a lot of leg work ahead of us here.”
White was planning on attending the Pee Wee Tier I Provincials in Slave Lake on the weekend.
