Arrest in Wabasca drive-by shooting

On Jan. 7, 2018 at approximately 2:00 p.m., Desmarais RCMP responded to a report of a drive by shooting in Desmarais. It is alleged the lone victim was walking on a road in Desmarais when a vehicle drove by and a shot was fired. The victim was not harmed.
Police located the vehicle and further investigation resulted in the execution of search warrants at two separate residences.
Desmarais RCMP arrested a 27-year-old male from Desmarais without incident. He was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
Careless use of a firearm and pointing a firearm, possession of a firearm without a licence, possession of a weapon contrary to order and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
While executing the search warrants at both residences police seized:
A ballistic vest, two replica handguns and mace.
The accused person made his first appearance in Desmarais Provincial Court on Jan. 11, 2018. Police do not believe this was a random incident and the investigation continues.
As this matter is now before the courts no further information will be provided.
